this is our story of no health care and the help we need.
for tom it started about a year ago. he was having pain and bloating in his stomach. so he went to the doctor (many times) to try to find out what was wrong. many times it was thought to be an infection of some sort but finally he was referred to a urologist. he was told the apointment would be about $300.00 but after the exam it ended up being about $500.00. we have no health insurance and make too much to qualify for goverment programs so this was a big chunk of change for us. the urologist told him he had a hernia.
well, he was still having trouble with the stomach and went back to the dr many times to try to find out what was going on. this time they said he had a kidney stone. this was after two expensive tests.
so now he has two hernias and one kidney stone, and only one kidney.
ok, my story.
i have had problems with my ears for years and have been to many dr's over those years to try to find out what was going on. in the past two years i have had alot of drainage of what i thought was just wax. oh no, couldnt be more wrong on that one. turns out it was infection draining out of my ear as it had built up too much and couldnt go down the ear tube the way it was supposed to. hey, at least now i knew what was wrong.
turns out the recurring ear infections i have had have eroded away two of the bones in my ear and if not taken care of could erode throught to my brain.
so now we find out that both of us need surgery. tom for his hernias and kidney stone and me for my ear.
my dr will not operate unless he at least has his money up front. well, did i mention that we have no health insurance and no money and i just lost my job and with the economy tom is having a tough enough time trying to get jobs for his contracting business. its all we can do to pay the rent.
so im not used to asking strangers for help, but we could sure use some money to help us with our health needs.
